Nicole Lyons
Nicole Lyons joins the Pacific Equipment Racing Team in 2013.
Nicole Lyons is fueled by the same horsepower that ignites the cars she races, although Lyons is only 5’6”, her exotic beauty, spirited personality and kinetic intensity make her seem larger than life. However, those that learn about this multi-faceted athlete are amazed, while she carves a niche for herself as one of the world’s premier female professional racecar drivers.
As Lyons continues to fulfill her dreams, she has already created history, as the first African-American female to race in the coveted classes of
NHRA Top Sportsman & Comp as well as ADRL Top Sportsman.
Competing in the NHRA /ADRL Top Sportsman, Outlaw South, NMCA, and Mike Hill Pro Mod racing events, Lyons’ 2011 race schedule consisted of 24 competitions that established her as the only female racer to qualify and go several rounds in NHRA/ADRL Top Sportsman and NMCA. Lyons had 4 event wins in 2011, 1 – Outlaw South win and 3 – Southern Pro Mod event wins.
Lyons was invited to the prestigious Orlando World Street Nationals, to compete in the fastest most coveted class; Pro Street. Lyons was the only woman to solidly qualify and compete in Pro Street, which allowed fans to acknowledge her professional, competitive—yet aggressive skill set.
Lyons is definitely not just a pretty face she is a complete automotive gear head. She built her first drag racing engine in 2009, which won an award from Chevy Rumble magazine it was a 565 cubic inch -1100 horsepower engine. Then in 2011 Lyons consulted with engine builder Steve Schmidt in which Schmidt increased Lyons racing efforts by sponsoring her with a brand new 665 cubic inch-1500 horsepower engine; which has propelled her from a seven second car, to a six second car—racing in a quarter mile.
Recognizing that the majority of racing headquarters are based in the southern United States, Lyons moved to Atlanta, Georgia in early 2011. Her plans were pro-active: race NHRA Pro Mod and be formally introduced to the NASCAR racing leagues. In pursuit of driving a NHRA Pro Mod car Lyons was introduced to NHRA Pro Mod team owner Roger Burgess who was impressed with Lyons after her hearing about her semi final finish in just her 3rd ever 2011 NHRA D2 Top Sportsman event. Roger has brought Nicole under the R2B2 umbrella to learn the world of NHRA Pro Mod from R2B2 2011 NHRA Pro Mod event winning driver Melanie Troxel in which Nicole has driven 5 seconds at over 245 mph.
Off the track, Lyons serves as Chief Executive Officer and President of Cole Muscle Cars, an engine building and muscle car restoration company. In 2011 Lyons was selected to be on FOX’s new highly anticipated automotive reality series “CAR WARRIORS.” The 10 episode reality show first aired on February 25, 2011, on the Speed Channel. “CAR WARRIORS” is a car restoration competition and Lyons breaks down barriers and stereotypes as the teams engine specialist. Being a star of the show caught the eye of Marlon Wayans who signed Nicole to a deal for her very own reality show.
The Marlon Wayans produced show starts filming January 20th, 2011 and is spearheaded by A&E TV Executive Steve Harris. Lyons has graced several networks such as CNN, CBS, FOX, SPEED, G4, BET and ESPN, all highlighting Lyons for her drag racing efforts. Aside from television, Lyons most recently made the highly prestigious list of the “10 Hottest Women in Drag Racing,” according to Drag Illustrated Magazine (January 2011 issue) and has been in several magazine publications such as Jay Z’s Life & Times, Upscale, Vibe, Black Enterprises, Chevy Rumble, Drag Racer, Rides, Stark and several more.
With an overflow of talent, beauty, athleticism and determination, Nicole Lyons is as amazing and unstoppable in life, as she is on the track.
